International School of Hellerup Announces New Head of School

The Board of the International School of Hellerup is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Elmiye Kolukisa as the new permanent Head of School.

Since the start of the hiring process, at the Board we were keenly aware of the challenge of appointing ISH’s next head of school. The six-month search was thorough and rigorous, and attracted talented candidates from around the world. This comprehensive search was guided by the priorities thoughtfully articulated by the ISH community and grounded in the school’s mission. To ensure market reach and unbiased decision making, the search was run by a professional external recruiter, Genitor.

In the process, we benefited from stakeholder feedback that gave us clear priorities: maintaining the culture and personality of ISH, affirming and extending academic excellence, and ensuring the overall student experience and wellness in a school community marked by diversity and belonging. The next head of school needed to have not only compelling personal qualities, but also strong leadership experience and competencies, including the ability to organize and execute, and the skills to plan strategically and effect change.

Following a competitive recruitment process, the Board unanimously selected Elmiye as the new Head of School, a decision fully endorsed by the recruiting firm. She will take up her position immediately. 

Elmiye is currently serving as interim Head of School at ISH and has successfully managed the transition period, including the integration of the IB programs and the Danish STX, ensuring ISH remains an affordable provider of high-quality education. Previously, for more than a decade she served as vice-principal at a Danish STX High School, where she worked closely with the Ministry of Education to bring innovative, global, career, and digital programs to the students.

Elmiye says that her mission moving forwards would be to maintain the ISH’s excellent position in the Danish educational scene, and to further build on its teaching success. She further adds:

With over three decades of experience in education, including teaching at primary, secondary, and high school levels, I've always been deeply passionate about nurturing student well-being, recognizing its pivotal role in their holistic development and ultimate success.

I want you to know that I'm not just a Head of School; I see myself as your partner in our shared journey to shape our school into a place where every student can thrive and succeed.
